Do I need a membership at the Nova Scotia Equestrian Federation?
Yes, for riding lessions and assisted riders program a Nova Scotia Equestrian Federation (NSEF) is required as part of the standard operating procedures at ranches across Nova Scotia.
Membership is available to individuals and family units. Membership provides insurance for each rider. The cost is approximately $50 per year.

Do I need to sign a waiver?
Yes. Every visitor and rider/guardian does sign a waiver as part of standard operating procedure at ranches across Nova Scotia. This will be provided at the time of the first visit to the ranch.
Does a rider need special equipment?
Yes. Every rider must wear the following:
- Fitted equestrian or high impact safety approved helmet with chin strap
- Hard-soled boots with heel
- Long, well-fitted pants (soft stretchable pants or jeans if possible)
- Gloves (recommended, but not required)
- No shorts, no sandals.
Weather/seasonal appropriate attire is required at all times. Riders must comply with equipment requirements in order to ride. If you have questions, please ask.
How should we dress for the Community Wellness Program?
Dress comfortably! Layers is best depending on the season. Footwear can be boots; athletic shoes or other closed shoe you don’t mind getting a little dirty.
SPRING/SUMMER: We recommend you bring sunscreen, a sun hat, and a water bottle.
A washroom is on the facility, if required. Visit Community Wellness Program.
Is there a cancellation/rescheduling policy?
It depends on the program. However generally speaking private lessons require four-weeks advance notice of cancellation or rescheduling.
Cancellations made due to inclement weather or conditions will be rescheduled by Rocky Hollow Ranch for a specified date/time.
Refunds are not available for missed lessons or programming.

Credit card payment is also accepted. Please note, an additional 5% will be added to credit card payments.

Do I have to ride exclusively at Rocky Hollow Ranch while I take lessons there?
Yes. This protects our horses and our people.
What is the Tech Policy for students?
When we say ‘a tech-free experience,’ we mean it. We are a tech-free environment. Students are asked to leave devices at home (there is a phone for emergency calls) and everyone is asked to put their phone away while on the premises of Rocky Hollow Ranch.
